Andrew Mattox Obituary

Andrew, affectionately known as “Guchie,” was the seventh child born to the late Georgia Webster and A.C. Mattox on October 25, 1956, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Andrew was raised in a loving home that he shared with parents and siblings whom he loved dearly. Andrew also attended and received his early education in the Yazoo City school systems. As the years moved on, Andrew and his siblings traveled from Yazoo City to Chicago for a new beginning that included his bonus dad Lee Webster in 1970. Andrew continued his education at Marshall High School, and after high school, he went to truck driving school and obtained his CDL. Guchie was a ladies’ man, but his first loves were music, cars, and motorcycles. Andrew was a guitarist and vocalist with the Cook County Express, Melvin Taylor, and the Slack Band. Andrew was also very fond of providing everyone in the family with a nickname. Andrew held many jobs but he found peace in building race cars, becoming the neighborhood mechanic which allowed him to meet and get acquainted with many people whom he befriended. On Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:35 PM, Andrew was called to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia and A.C.; bonus dad, Lee; sister, Catherine; and brothers, Robert Earl, Joe Benny, and Eli. Guchie leaves to cherish his memory: six children, TaShonda (Daniel), Tywasha (James), Ellis, Andrew, Ashley, and Adrienne; 15 grandchildren, Jasmine, Destiny, Brianna, Daniel Jr., DaShon, Maia, Nayla, Ellis Jr., Ethan, Romeo, Makeda, Amiya, Yanna, Dae’Keirria, and Aariyah; two great-grandsons, Jayceon and Jaden; three sisters, Molly, Velma Jean, and Marilyn (Alvin); three brothers, Willie, Melvin (Loretta), and Delbert; one aunt, Daisy; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that meant the world to him.
