Obituary

Anita Dantzler was born on January 28, 1975, to Juanita Gates and the late Albert Willie Dantzler at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1980, her family moved to Chicago, Illinois. Anita was a member of Hope Community Advent Christian Church, where she was baptized and accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Anton Dvorak Elementary School and Richard T. Crane High School, both located on the west side of Chicago. While attending high school, Anita was a member of several school organizations, on the volleyball team and the assistant coach for the girl’s basketball team. It was in high school where Anita found her love for teaching and inspiring others to be great. After graduating high school in 1993, she continued her education at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and graduated in 1997 as Cum Laude. After graduation Anita started her teaching career at Roger Corbett Elementary in Reno, Nevada, where she taught for three years and acquired the name “Ms. D.” Ms. D. then moved back to Chicago, where she continued her teaching career with CPS, where she taught for 22 years until the day of her passing. On Friday, April 22, 2022, Ms. D. transitioned and gained her wings at 8:20 AM. She leaves to mourn her memory and loving spirit: her mother with whom she had a special and unbreakable bond, Juanita Gates; her sister, Evelyn Gates; her niece, Jasmyn Peterson; her grandmother, Evelyn Dantzler; her uncle, Lawrence Dantzler; Bill Reliford, Jr. (Danny), whom she lovingly called her big bruh; her BFF (baby moma), Adrienne Myrick; her two goddaughters, Clarissa Johnson (Renia Jones, Laparis Faust) and Aaliyah Myrick; her godson, Xavier; her CPS family which includes longterm friendships with principals, teachers, and students to name a few; and a host of other aunts, uncles, and c
