She was born Annie Ruth Flenard, to Braddie L. Massey and Alexander Rayford (who preceded her in death), on May 2, 1937. She attended school in Pascagoula, Mississippi, until she later relocated to Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 17. This was when she met and later married Elzie D. Flenard, Sr. To their union, children were born: Johnny (preceded her in death) Elzie, Jr., Darrell, Angie, Christopher, Carl, and Gregory. She began her retail career at Montgomery Wards, and worked there for about 15 years. Soon thereafter, she began her career with Walgreens. She remained there until retirement. She then started her next career in childcare with Busy Bumble Bee Daycare. She enjoyed this profession until she was 75 years young. In this career, she formed so many lasting bonds and helped so many people. She lived a full life! Of unconditional love, caring, compassion, and the willingness to help and assist others. She was an active member of Metropolitan M.B. Church. She was a faithful and cheerful servant of the Lord as an Usher as well. She was an amazing woman, her spirit filled with joy, love, and a kind heart. Throughout her life as a young woman, she traveled to California, Detroit, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. She was a joy to be around. Annie loved a good meal... as a matter of fact, a great meal. She always had something good to eat brewing in the kitchen. She loved her family and friends to the moon and back. The Lord called her to her New Home on the afternoon of June 8. She was able to see her 85th birthday, and most of her children for Mothers Day this year, up until she returned to the Lord. Her Legacy lives on through the following, who will forever treasure her: Elzie D. Flenard, Sr. (preceded her in death); children, Johnny (who preceded her in death), Elzie, Jr. (Brenda), Darrell, Angeletta, Christopher, Gregory, and Carl; grandchildren, Dominique, Robin (Daniel L. Leonard, Sr.), Shannon, Sr., Elzie III (Victoria), Brian (Latasha), and Darrell; great-grands, Daniel, Jr., Ameyah, Elzie IV, Niya, Brian, Jr., LaBriasha, Shannon, Jr., Abria, and Shalin; great-great-grands, Shannon III and Shanyla; dearest sister-in-law, Mabel Givhan; dearest friends, Colenist Lady Lynn Cannon and Mary Shepard (who both preceded her in death); and many many many other close friends and family
