Anthony Amos Spivey, Sr., was born
on January 23, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to Willie Spivey and Oria Lee
Ivory. He grew up in Argo-Summit, Illinois, and Houston, Texas, and
graduated from B. C. Elmore High School in Houston. As a teenager,
Anthony loved spending time with his uncles, Clarence and Lester Ivory.
Anthony was dra ed in the Army during the Vietnam War and was
stationed in Germany. Upon being released from the Army, he was
employed at several companies in various positions. Anthony was a
hard-working and dedicated man of integrity. is work ethic earned
him a supervisory status at Rohbi Enterprises in Broadview, Illinois,
until his retirement in 2016.
In 1998, Anthony met the love of his life, Linda, while visiting cousins
in Detroit, Michigan. ey were married in 2000 a er a long-distance
courtship. e couple remained deeply in love until Anthony took his
last breath.
Linda was very in uential in Anthony focusing on his personal and
spiritual growth. Anyone who knew him knew that he was the most
loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle a family could
ask for. Anthony shared this same love with his many cousins, church
family, and acquaintances throughout the community.
Anthony was affectionately named “Elijah” by Minister Neil Lopez
after the biblical prophet because of his servitude qualities. He enjoyed
volunteering to prepare food for families in need with members of
Maywood Church of Christ. Anthony was once an avid le -handed
bowler. He also like learning about African American history, working
in his garden, and nurturing the special bond with his grandson,
Xavier. Anthony was jokingly called “the sleep whisperer” because he
had an extraordinary gi of getting his grandson to take naps. Upon
every departure with Xavier, Anthony would secure him in his car seat,
kiss him on the forehead, and remind him, “I love you and God loves
you, too.”
In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by his
rstborn son, Anthony Spivey, Jr.
Anthony leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife of twenty-two
years, Linda; three children, a son, Corey Blackwell, and two daughters,
Sharece (Kevin) Rouse and Shikenya Foster; three grandchildren,
Anthony Spivey III, Syerra Taylor, and Xavier Rouse; his big sister,
Wilma (Curtis) Washington; niece, Cynthia Gause; nephew, Corey
Gause; and a host of relatives and friends.
