Antonio Murphy Obituary

Antonio Shandell Murphy, affectionately known as "Pookie" was born August 8, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois at Cook County Hospital. He was the oldest of four children born to Beatrice Murphy and Herman Bobo, Jr., on the westside of Chicago. Pookie's father and both his maternal and paternal grandparents preceded him in death. Pookie attended Bethune Elementary School and Crane High School. In the early 1990s, he worked with his mom at Acme Sporting Goods. In his later years, he worked in the housekeeping industry. His love for the elderly allowed him to obtain a position at Bridgerton Nursing Home in Bensenville. Pookie was very well-known throughout the entire city. Growing up on the westside of Chicago near Lexington and Homan made Pookie the popular and outgoing man that he was. As a young boy he enjoyed flipping, playing basketball, and could jump really high; he had "hops". Later, the family moved to the southside of Chicago near 68th and Paulina. Ultimately, he made new friendships and more connections. He knew how to get around the city with ease and often provided rides for the people he loved. His love for cars began as a young child and he admired a "well-kept" car. His father taught him how to drive at the tender age of eight years old in his mother's red mustang. His passion for cars continued as an adult. Pookie was a jokester and always laughing. He loved his family dearly. Some would say “he cursed like a sailor”. He had an infectious smile and was very charming with the ladies. He was a very proud father of six children: Deron Murphy, ShaQuilla Murphy, Shandell Murphy, Shantez Murphy, Armani Murphy, and Aarion Watson. Pookie accepted Christ at an early age and had a personal relationship with the Lord. On November 16, 2024, Antonio Shandell Murphy passed away peacefully in his sleep. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Beatrice Murphy, and step-father, Lennard Rush; six children, Deron Murphy, ShaQuilla Murphy, Shandell Murphy, Shantez Murphy, Armani Murphy, and Aarion Watson; seven grandchildren; and three siblings, Antoinette Murphy (Walter), Tridonna Ousley (Bennie), and Lenneil Rush. He also leaves behind many close friends, aunts and uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
