Antonio Shaffer Obituary

Antonio Shaffer was born on July 12, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, to the union of Carla and Anthony Shaffer, Sr. Antonio was also affectionately known as “Tony,” “Fat Rat,” and “SHAFFA” to family and friends. Our beloved Antonio was summoned by our dear Lord on February 17, 2021.
Antonio accepted Christ at an early age. Despite his trials and tribulations, Antonio kept God first. Yes, Antonio victoriously battled many of life’s challenges he encountered with courage, strength, and bravery. Antonio kept his faith in God as he always acknowledged God in all that he did. Later in life, Antonio became a member of The Peoples Church of The Harvest, where his spiritual growth was nurtured and enhanced.
Antonio was united in holy matrimony to Jovie Shaffer on May 15, 2015, and their union included the raising of six wonderful children for 11 plus years. They built a strong bond like no other. Respectfully, he was her KING as she was his QUEEN. Their countless memories shared are priceless and their example instilled the word FAMILY in their children. Antonio was very active in his children’s life. He ALWAYS AVAILED himself for doctor’s appointments, dental appointments, Report Card Pick-up Day, Father Take Your Kids to Breakfast engagements, life’s various ordeals, assemblies, ALL GRADUATIONS, Father & Daughter Dance with his baby girl, etc. He spent a lot of time being their personal “UberDad” while being a comedian for them from sun up to sundown.
Antonio enjoyed spending time with his family, shopping, swimming, playing baseball, basketball, cookouts, and a variety of outdoor activities; he simply loved playing board games, cards, video games, family movie night, baking sections, (in his voice) “yessssss bout to bake another one looking a** boi. You hear what I’m tryin’ to told yah.” And most of all, family vacations were his absolute favorite, which allowed him to focus strictly on the kids, unwind, and enjoy being catered to. Antonio also enjoyed spending time with his paternal grandmother. Memorably, as a young child, he loved visiting with her during which they’d spend a lot of time in the kitchen, as she always prepared him delicious meals.
Shaffa LOVED the city life where he found joy in just chilling and hanging out with his friends. He had a heart of GOLD and was always willing to extend a helping hand. Shaffa was greatly loved and well-respected. He allowed his light to shine. Anyone who came in contact with him could feel the love and laughed consistently because of his effortless humor.
Antonio attended Marshall High School. Thereafter, he later received his certificate in Custodial Building Maintenance from Philemon. Antonio was an extremely hardworking man who ALWAYS rose to the occasion, making things happen for his family. He enjoyed gambling at the Casino or wherever the dice was rolling. He always kept a job, his most recent position being a delivery driver, which he enjoyed. He spent a few years working for Intellux Security. Also, Antonio and his wife managed a restaurant and Beauty Shop that allowed them to experience the entrepreneurial life. In the spirit of blessing others, Antonio also volunteered monthly at his church assisting with food drives.
Antonio was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Clark, and Jody, and Velma Shaffer.
He leaves his legacy and many cherished memories to: his loving, patient, and devoted wife, Jovie Shaffer; his dedicated mother, Carla Benas; his loving father, Anthony (Cecilia) Shaffer ,Sr.; grandmother, Jessie Lipscomb; six children, Arianna “Babygirl,” Jaden “Dad,” Malakyi “CapaRoni,” Lionel “Junebug,” Essie “Puff Daddy,” and Demarlon “Cap”; brother, Anthony (Monique) Shaffer, Jr.; three sisters, Jamekia Tiggs, Nefertiri Tiggs, and Ashley Shaffer; special second mother, Gloria Benas-Gregory; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
