Assistant Pastor Elder Charles Lee Thomas was born November 25, 1948, in Rudyard, Mississippi. He was the seventh child of Eddie and Alberta Thomas, both of whom preceded him in death. Charles spent his younger years in Mississippi, where he attended West District High School. He accepted Christ at a young age and was very faithful and dedicated to the church. Working with his hands was his “thing”! One of his earliest jobs was paving highways in Mississippi. After that he became the family’s handyman. “If black tape couldn’t fix it, nothing could!” He met the love of his life in Mississippi and at the time he didn’t know it. Charles decided to move to Chicago, Illinois, to better his life in 1968. He ran across the love of his life again and realized that he wasn’t going to let her slip away this time. On February 15, 1970, Charles and Irene were joined together in holy matrimony. To this union, they were blessed with five beautiful children. Charles was a man of faith and attended church regularly, and God called him to the ministry where he was ordained to be an Elder. Charles touched many lives in different churches, wherever he could be a helping hand at he was there with a smile on his face. Elder Charles loved music and thought he could play every instrument. But his favorite instrument was the cymbals. Boy, could he play those cymbals. As time progressed, Elder Charles continued his ministry at New Revelation,Youth Center Church of God in Christ, Healing Temple Church of God in Christ, True Vine Church Of God In Christ and pastored at House of Refuge, just to name a few until he decided to join Praise and Worship Outreach Ministries. He attended faithfully until his health slowly declined. On Monday, October 7, 2024, at 12:00 p.m., the Lord Jesus Christ whispered in his ear and requested for him to come home. And he left his message for us all: “Only what you do for Christ shall last!” He leaves to cherish: his loving wife, Irene Thomas; five children: four sons, the late Danny Thomas (Tracey, deceased), Glenn Thomas (Jennifer), Clinton Thomas (Kattie Thomas), Gregory Thomas, and one special daughter, Rosemary Howard (Cedric); 13 siblings: six sisters, the late Alberta (Walter), the late Flornece (Reed, deceased), Mary (Otto, deceased), Elizabeth (Garrett, deceased), Evelyn, Dorothy, seven brothers, the late Jessye, the late Richard (Carylen), the late Eddie (Willie Ann, deceased), Wilfred Julian (Jerlean), Henry (Diamond); five sisters-in-law who preceded him in death, Jeannette, Mary, Bessie, Rose, Ida, one sisterin-law left to cherish memories, Catherine; one brother-in-law, Robert (Edna); 11 grandkids, Danny (Crashandra), Jahmal, Sean, Jamal, Jamon, Jenae, Jeleah, Jemia, Jekayla, Kaycee; a special daughter, Elizabeth Budy; four great-grandkids, Kyndra, Dakota, Jamal, Jazlyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special friends, Elder Magee, Bishop Couley, Carl, Jimmy, and Elder Mackin.
