On Friday, July 9, 2021, Bernice Lewis, beloved sister and mother of two children, passed away unexpectedly. Bernice was born on July 22, 1961, in Chicago, IL, to Thelma Funches and Praythion Lewis. Having been raised by two parents from the South, much of Bernice’s early life was defined by their no-nonsense demeanor. Upon graduating from Notre Dame (Class of ‘79), she decided to pursue her calling in the science field, eventually working in medical science. Up until her passing, she acquired various accolades for her performances in school as well as work. For anyone that knew Bernice, her passion for the sciences was only usurped by her love for music. There was rarely an occasion that Bernice was not accompanied by music. From her time working in a record shop (1977- 1980) until now, records, CDs, you name it, she had it. This was greatly appreciated by her friends and family. She loved her friends like family and was loved by almost all who encountered her. Bernice was preceded in death by: her mother, Thelma, and her father, Praythion. She lives on in her two children, Juavanda and Joseph, as well as her brother, Patrick, grandchild, Perrion, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
