Bertha Harris Obituary

As we celebrate the life of Bertha Mae Harris, we will reflect on her smile, her wittiness, and her sense of humor. Bertha Mae Harris was born into this world on July 30, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Joe and Nezella Young, who both preceded her in death. Bertha was a rare flower who spread her fragrance to the lives of those she touched. Bertha was a beautiful person who loved her family and friends dearly. There was never a dull moment when she was present, with her funny jokes and a million and one nicknames that she gave to those she loved. As Bertha began to matriculate through the Chicago School System, she was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Angenturia Young. This didn’t stop Bertha’s drive and motivation to continue to further her education. Indeed, she went on to graduate and receive her diploma, as well as certificates, ultimately leading her to Rush University Hospital, where she worked in the anesthesiology Department for many years. Bertha met and married Thomas Harris, and to this union two children were born, Kimmel and Patrick. Bertha had done so many wonderful things in her life. When she wasn’t tutoring the children at Resurrection Academy, she was enjoying her music, reading Harlequinn books, or just sitting at her mom’s. Bertha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to so many. On December 23, 2021, Bertha heard the Lord calling and answered the call to come and be with him in Heaven, where she would join both her parents, her sister, Frances, her brother, Joe Jr., and two nephews, Charles and Valenta. Bertha leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Thomas Harris; her children, Angenturia, Kimmel (Laron), and Patrick (Roxann); eight grandchildren, Tnekia, Unique, Kamira, Shauntaz Jr., Dominique, Jamir, Rashad, and Ahmad; seven greatgrandchildren, Tayari, Jelani, Serenity, Valmonte, Lyric, Kyla, and Kristopher; sister, Ethel (Leon), Cathy, Linda, Lorrain, Myra (Bruce), and Andrea (Arvell); brother, Jeremiah (Alma); nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. “I am the resurrection and the life…” ~ John 11:25
