Betty was born on February 2, 1951, to Edward and Bettie Clark. She was the oldest of two children. She graduated from Wadsworth Elementary School and Hype Park High School in 1968. Betty gave her life to Christ at an early age. She and her sister, Gwen, would enjoy a movie after church every Sunday. Betty met Clint Carr and gave birth to her only child Tamiko on August 5 1969. She single-handedly raised and nutured her, sometimes working 3 jobs to take care of her daughter. Betty began her career in the medical field as a coder in 1970 at Roosevelt Memorial Hospital. From there she worked for Grant Hospital, St. Francis of Evanston and retired from Little Company of Mary in 2017. Betty has been employed with Illinois Bell, Sears, and Northern Trust Bank as well as dictated for physicians. Betty loved to spend time with her granddaughter, go to plays, shop, sew, play bingo, grill, dine out, and listen to Motown music. She watched documentaries, cooking shows, and CNN/MSNBC. Betty was an active member on the Hype Park High School class reunion committee. In 2006, her battle with kidney failure began. She was blessed to be a 99% match and received a kidney from her daughter. Her goal was to never go on dialysis, and she made it until May 2025. She lived pass the 12 years life expectancy for kidney recipients. GOD IS GOOD! After 19 years, her kidneys become weak and began to fail. After almost two months in the hospital, the Lord decided the battle was over and it was time to call her home. The Bible says the battle is not yours, it's the Lord's She is survived by her beloved daughter, Tamiko Clark-Finley; grandson, Brandon Elliott; two bonus grandsons, Markell Harris and Marques Finley; great-granddaughter, Harmoni Elliott; great-grandson, Brayden Elliott (due to arrive in August); sister, Gwendolyn Clark-Jordan (Ronald preceded in death); nephew, Stanley (Rolanda) Clark; great-nephews, Steven (Kayla) Clark, Marshaun Clark, Jovon Clark, and Trauvon Clark; great-niece, Jessica Clark; honorary daughters, Tamika Morris, Shawntale Hurst, and Sheila Scott; lifelong and childhood friends: Rosemary Lyles, Mary Scott, Vicki Peagler, Gwendolyn Lewis, Donna Washington-Calvin, Arlene Harvey, Linda Green, and Darnetta Evans.
