Beulah Mae Humphries, affectionately known as “Queen B,” was born on May 28, 1938, in Tunica, Mississippi, to the late Robert Murray and Mary Lee White. Beulah attended and graduated from Dusable High School in Chicago, Illinois. Soon after, she went on to pursue her love for doing hair and graduated from Morris Academy Beauty Cultural School. Beulah was a fashionista and slayed all the young ladies around the Chicagoland area. She would enter hair show competitions and walked away with multiple titles. Beulah loved the Lord and accepted Christ at a young age. For many years, she was a member of New Day Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, under the leadership of the late Reverend Willie B. Daugherty. She was a member in the choir and passionately served for years as the pastor’s nurse. Here at New Day Baptist Church, she said, “I do,” to her love, Jesse Humphries, on December 24, 1979, and they both moved to Maywood, Illinois. She later joined Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois, under the leadership of Pastor Marvin E. Wiley. Beulah attended Sunday Service faithfully, serving as a member of the Shepherd Ministry. Even when she became ill, she was still a faithful member watching online. Beulah loved her pastor and church family, along with her big hats and fashionable suits. Beulah was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a Worthy Matron of her Chapter for several years. For many years, Beulah worked at Prestige Lamp Company until she retired. She also worked as a Teacher’s Aid at PAEC Center School and Tender Care Early Learning Center. Beulah would tell it like it is, but she had a heart of gold, known as the little lady with the big heart. The Gates of Heaven opened for Beulah on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 7:18 AM where she joined her twin sister, Lula Mae Murray; nephew, Roger Murray; and other family members. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Jesse Humphries; nine children, Gerald (Antoinette), Valerie, Wilesha (Earlest), Ricardo (Francy), Mary, Darryl (Marleny), SaTieria, LaShaundra, and Danika; two sisters, Joyce and Cris; two brothers, Marlah and Marti; four siblings who preceded her in death, her twin, Lula Mae, Robert Jr., Majorie, and Bennie; special nephew, James; special son, Cecil; twentyone grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of sistersin-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
