Darren Gaddy Sr Obituary

Darren was born in Chicago on August 17, 1975, to the late Pastor Percy and Rebecca Gaddy, who preceded him in death. Darren was the ninth of twelve children, a man destined for greatness from the moment of his extraordinary birth. He entered the world in a praying position—a symbol of his ordained purpose. Darren Gaddy, Sr., a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend, entered into eternal rest on January 22, 2025. From an early age, Darren’s life was deeply rooted in faith. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by Pastor Evans of the Lily of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Under the spiritual leadership of his father, the late Pastor Percy Gaddy at the United Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church, Darren’s faith flourished, and his gifts emerged. A talented musician and vocalist, Darren became known for his unparalleled skill as an organist and as the lead director of the United Kingdom Baptist Church choir. Darren’s ability to direct gospel songs like “All in His Hands,” “Tell It, and “Who’s on the Lord’s Side” remains unmatched. With a smooth voice and vocal runs that defined his generation, Darren was also a gifted songbird who inspired many. One of his most cherished musical moments was singing alongside his big brother, Percy, in the community choir, Voices of Unity. In 1999, Darren and his family joined God’s Way Full Gospel Church under Pastor John Cooley, Sr. Darren’s love for music and ministry was evident, and his passion for the organ was a source of pride and joy. His mother, affectionately calling him “Monk,” would often remind him not to play around with the organ, but it was his gift! In 2011, Darren joined Forgiven by Christ under Pastor Willie Doss, and in 2020, he joined Bethel New Life under Dr. R. Keith Beauchamp, where he remained faithful until God called him home. Darren attended Henry Nash Elementary and Marshall High School in Chicago. In the summer of 1996, he met the love of his life, Latoya, on Huron Street, where he grew up. On November 23, 2003, Darren and Latoya were united in holy matrimony. To this union, four children were born. Darren and Latoya recently celebrated 21 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love. Darren often expressed his adoration for Latoya, proudly saying he has been with her for half of his life. Darren was preceded in death by his five brothers, Darun, Daniel, Dwayne, LaShun, and Percy. He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Latoya Gaddy; loving children, Darnita Rodgers (Brian), Darren Jr., Devon, and Daria; three grandchildren, Ariyan Gaddy, Isaiah, and Isaac Rodgers, with two eagerly awaited grandchildren on their way; Darren also is survived by his brothers, Derrick (Twayna), Darryl (Betty Jean), and William; sisters, Brenda (Rory), Linda (Rodney), and Priscilla (Kenneth); godbrother, James; godsister, Latrice; mother-in-love, Mrs. Climontine Murray; uncles, Nathaniel (Melissa), John (Joyce), and Eddie (Sheila); aunt, Rosetta; great-aunt, Josephine; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
