Our beloved Darris J. Bailey, Sr., was born on August 18, 1963, in Dodgeville, Mississippi. He was the firstborn child of Ada Bailey-Matthews and Reverend Isiah Matthews, Sr. Darris accepted Christ at an early age at Holy Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend C. T. Baker. Darris was raised in a home filled with love, respect, generosity, and unwavering support for one another. He attended Farragut Career Academy in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his diploma with technical training. Darris was employed at The Standard in Bedford, Illinois, until his passing.Affectionately known as “DC,” Darris loved riding motorcycles and working with his hands. Blessed with an incredible imagination and remarkable craftsmanship, he developed a passion for rehabilitating homes and buildings. This became more than a profession—it became his passion and legacy. Darris was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Isiah Matthews, Sr.; his brother, Isiah Matthews, Jr.; and his sister, Lucille Matthews. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved mother, Ada Matthews; two sisters, Bloundine Matthews and Pamela Matthews; son, Darris J. Bailey, Jr., (Natasha) of Florida; daughter, Darnise J. Bailey of Maryland; and their mother, Denise Nathaniel. He also leaves his daughters, Jordyn Bailey and Erika English of Illinois, along with their mother, Angela English; and Alaurie Shears, Alec Shears, and Allen Shears, along with their mother, Veronica Shears of Georgia. His cherished grandchildren include Iris Bailey, Xavier Gamble, Jr., and Zenaya English. Darris also leaves to mourn his passing his longtime friends, Dwight Pettigrew, Dwight Rainey, Alice Hackett, Marcus Head, O.B., John Nathaniel, and Van Wells; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other dear friends.
