Doris Jean Lynch was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 14, 1943. She was the oldest of five children. Her parents were James Purchas and Selina Purchas Phillips. In 1949, her family migrated to Summit-Argo, Illinois. Doris accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. Doris educational journey began at Argo Elementary, School District #104, and continued at Argo Community High School, School District #217. “Doris and Samuel Forever” was her favorite saying. On September 30, 1959, they were united in holy matrimony. To this union, two children were born, Darlene Michelle and Monica Dale. Doris further enhanced her education by obtaining her degree in Nursing, becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse from Triton Jr. College in River Grove, Illinois, in 1975. Doris had worked at MacNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois, prior to obtaining her Nursing Degree, (LPN). After receiving her degree, she became employed with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Illinois, where she worked for over 30 years. In 2005, Doris retired from the VA Hospital. On May 1, 2001, Minister Doris along with Reverend Sam, Sister Penneliva, and Jeremiah and Beverly Westbrook started “Ryans Christian Living Center,” an organization that was a social, charitable community center, assisting substance abusers in recovery. In November of 2004, while in prayer Minister Doris had a vision about a ministry to see people set free—a ministry to win souls for the Kingdom of God and to reach out to those who are lost, wounded, and have no place to go. Minister Doris strongly believed in the power of prayer and embracing God’s people in compassion and love. Her vision brought forth “Freedom Evangelistic Ministry” on February 25, 2005, a ministry that had a heart for souls and freedom from the bondage of sin. Minister Doris believed strongly in the power of prayer and that having the faith of God would move mountains. She exemplified the spirit of love and compassion. Her purpose and desire were to worship God in spirit and in truth! In the early morning of Tuesday, July 30, 2024, God called Doris home to rest. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Samuel Lynch, Jr., and her parents, James Purchas and Selina Purchas Phillips. Minister Doris is leaving to cherish fond memories to her two loving daughters, Darlene (Gregory) Bailey and Monica Lynch, both of Summit-Argo, IL; one granddaughter, Shaquesha Bailey; two brothers, Anthony (Rachel) Purchas, Sr., and Thomas (Jerri) Purchas; two sisters, Pennelvia Purchas Hill and Ameena Bilal; one brother-in-law, Willie Lynch; one sister-in-law, Ethel Machen; one aunt, Wilhemia Mock; two godsons, Lawrence Mahoney, Jr., and John Goodwin, Jr.; special children, Annette Cobbs, Zelda Spruill, Reynard Williams, Sr., and Jerome Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
