Dorothy Marie Barry

Dorothy Marie Barry was born on May 13, 1939, in Oxford, Mississippi, to Cora Lee Campbell. She was the oldest of four siblings. Dorothy attended Oxford Training School from 1958 to 1959. Dorothy meet and married Samuel Sr. in 1960 at the age of 21. They moved to Chicago, Illinois, and started their lives together. Five children were born to their union. Dorothy and Sam were married for forty-two years until he went to be with the Lord in December of 2002. Dorothy attended St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church for many years and later attended Living Word Christian Church along with her children. Dorothy prayed every night on her knees when she went to bed and every morning when she got up. She was thankful for her life and always said she had a good life that she couldn’t complain. She loved to walk around the neighborhood in the summer. People would always see her on Madison Street walking and shopping. She never liked being in the house. One thing she loved to do was scratching lottery tickets and keeping her winnings to herself. She enjoyed playing the slot machines at the casino and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 13, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel Sr.; son, Samuel Jr.; two grandsons, Roy and Cortez; and two brothers, Benny and Jimmy. Dorothy leaves: her four children, Melissa, Alvin, Stephany, and Angela (Sedrick); five grandchildren, Shannon, Samuel Jr., Alvin Jr., Damarion, and Melanie; great-grandson, Jaden; sister, Margaret Ann; four nieces, Robbie (Robert), Vanessa, Tammy (Patrick), and Katrina; nephew, Jarvis; and a good friend of sixtynine years, Doris Wilso
