Dorothy Mongan was born April 29th or 30th (depending on who you ask) 1945, in Bonita, Mississippi, to P.G. Reed and Cora Bell Hood. She was the second of nine children. Her parents and two siblings preceded her in death; Lawerence Hood and William Reed. She accepted Christ and joined Proviso Baptist Church in Maywood, Il. She received her education in the Chicago public school system, attending Crane High School. She worked for several companies, including Stou ers and Embassy Suites, in a leadership capacity. She retired from PartyLite, where she loved her scented candles and character houses. She met and married James Mongan and to this union added Debra Banks. From this union two children were born Cora Mongan Maybin and Jermaine Mongan. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and making quilts. It’s without saying, before she became ill, she loved cooking and baking. ere are so many memories and recipes we can share about her that put a smile on our faces. She without hesitation was the caregiver and babysitter for nieces, nephew, grandchildren and more. On May 17, 2024 at 10:00 pm, God sent his angels to take her to a place of eternal peace. Her loving memories will be cherished by two children, daughter Cora Mongan Maybin and son Jermaine Mongan; three grandchildren, Tanzania Mongan, Zaire Maybin and Malaika Maybin; three sisters Ethel Finner (Roy Finner), Janis Davis (Lee Otis Davis) and Doris Reed, three brothers; Abdul Haqq (Samihah Haqq), Roland Reed (Delphine Reed) and Wayne Reed (Belinda Reed), one aunt; Veradine Ligon and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other family and friends
