Eric Patton affectionately known as “Sonny Boy” was born September 13, 1946, to Bernice and Thurmond Patton in Lexington, Mississippi. He was the fifth child born to this union. His education included Lexington Attendance Center (LAC) in Lexington, Mississippi, which was renamed McClain High years later. Sonny boy worked for Jim Brown Service Station with his older brother, Leroy, as his supervisor until his health took over. In 1965, he met his childhood sweetheart, Olymphia Patton. Sonny Boy then moved to Chicago, Illinois, with some of his other siblings, then went back to Mississippi to get his childhood sweetheart who were united in holy matrimony on July 22, 1967, and the couple moved together to Chicago in 1967. To this union, four children were born. Eric was very well known and loved by everyone he came in contact with. Sonny Boy loved to sing and he had a lot of sense of humor, a jack of all trades. Eric was a family man who loved them dearly. On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the angel of silence came to seal the lips of Eric. Eric’s parents, Bernice and Thurmond Patton, and his siblings Thurmond, Leroy, Johny Bell and Lovie, and one grandson Zion Patton precede him in death. Eric leaves to cherish his sweet memories: his devoted and loving wife, Olymphia Patton; his four dearest children Martees Christian, Eric (Deon) Patton, Jr., Ericka Patton and Lawanda Mason-Luse (John Luse); 18 grandchildren, Deltrick (Dyan Dagon), Tony (Lucy Patton), Shericka, Deonta, Jonnicqua, Edward, Tiffany, Shetoria, Eria, Tyrese, Cortaya, Da’veonta, Zyonna, Demarte, Jonnesha, Kayla, Khaliyah, and Desire; eleven great-grandchildren, Treasure, Taliyah, E’niyah, Jayla, Jenesis, Tereon, Lil Tony, Kash, Ameir, Jaydenand Demir; three sisters, Betty Montgomery, Bellwood IL, Eloise Johnson, Chicago, Illinois, Cardelia Redmond (John Redmond) Bellwood, Illinois; one brother, Lester Patton, Chicago, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends who will truly miss him.
