Esther Carroll Obituary

Esther Lou Alice Carroll was born on February 2nd, 1933, in
Roatan, Islas de la Bahia, Honduras, as the 11th of 12 children to
Walney Sr. and Adelaida McBride. Her parents and 9 of her
siblings preceded her in death.

Esther went to school at Escuela Juan Brooks in Honduras and
moved around often with her family, living in La Ceiba and San
Pedro in her youth.

While in Honduras, Esther gave birth to two sons, Randolph
(Ronnie) and Joseph, whom she loved dearly. With the help of her
sisters, she moved to America on October 26th, 1957, and settled
in Chicago. Later, she met and married the late Huey T. Carroll on
August 20th, 1961. During their 20-year marriage, she had two
more children, a son, Bradley (B.B.), and her only daughter
Deborah.

Esther was talented with her hands and showcased it throughout
her life. She worked as a nanny for Judge Staller and his family and
the kitchen manager at the Park Ridge School for Girls, preparing
meals for more than 100 people daily, but her true passion was
sewing. She often created new clothes for friends, family, or
herself and spent hours at her dining room table with her sewing
machine, bringing her ideas to life.

Esther loved a good party, going to dance halls with her sisters in
Honduras, and throwing house parties and dinners at her home in
Chicago. She was a gracious host, often holding Sabbath dinners
for her beloved Prison Ministry friends.

Esther was a loving and kind-hearted woman, known for her gentle
nature and her unwavering faith. A devout Christian, she filled her
home with the sound of her favorite hymns as she went about her
daily tasks, always ready with a comforting Bible verse for any
situation. In her close-knit neighborhood, she was affectionately
referred to as "Ms. Esther" and "Grandma" by her grandchildren's
friends, a true testament to the warmth and care she showed to
everyone she met. Her door was always open, and she welcomed
anyone in need with a hot meal and a listening ear. Her gentle
spirit and wise words had a way of bringing peace to any situation,
leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing
her.

Esther was called Home to her Heavenly Father on August 14th,
2024. Her memory lives on in her family: 2 sisters: Mary and Nella,
4 children: Ronnie, Joseph, Bradley, and Deborah, 16
grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of
relatives and friends.
