Ethel Piller was born to the union of Herman Palmer and Esther Hester (Willis) on September 23, 1944, in Youngstown, OH. She was the oldest of 10 and over the years she was known by her siblings as “Big Ed.” Ethel accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized in the Christian faith. In her youth, she attended St. Michael’s Church located on the West Side of Chicago. She was a member of the choir and always participated in the church’s fish fries. She lived in Chicago most of her life where she met the love of her life Percy Piller. They married on February 14, 1965, until God called him home April of 1981. She never remarried. Ethel never met a stranger. Her kindness and love touched a lot of people. She was always there for her family and friends in their time of need. She loved to sing, dance, and cook, especially during the holidays when she would make her famous “Sweet Potato Pies and Potato Salad.” Ethel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Percy Piller; mother, Esther Hester; father, Herman Palmer; stepfather, Burnis Hester, Sr.; brother, Burnis Hester, Jr.; and sisters, Shirley Hester and Belinda Hester. She leaves to cherish her precious memories to be shared by her loving and devoted children: daughter, Teresa Piller; sons, Percy Piller and David Piller; granddaughters, Monique, Amanda, and Tiara; grandsons, Patrick, Daniel, and Ian; great-grandchildren, Jasean, Jaleah, Mahari, Marquez Jr., and Ameerie; three brothers, Paul Hester (Charlene), Ricky Hester (Denise), and Peter Hester; three sisters, Lorraine Palmer (Johnny), Linda Adams, and Rosa Hester; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
