Everlena’s small frame radiated with kindness. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her was immediately greeted and embraced by her warm smile, peaceful presence and giving spirit. She had a quiet and comforting tone and a soft laugh that readily put anyone at ease.’
Everlena Hampton, affectionately called “Lean” by her friends and family, was born on September 2, 1940, to her parents, Jessie Lee and Bertha (née Estes) Biles in Minter City, Mississippi. She was the second-born of four children. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending Brown Chapel Church near her family home. Everlena graduated from T.Y. Flemings High School in Minter City in 1959. Soon after, she moved north to Chicago, Illinois, where she resided on the west side of the city. After a short courtship, she married the love of her life, Willie Lee Hampton. To this union was born three sons, Marvin, Andre, and Renard. Although she worked outside of the home for a period of time, following the birth of her children, Everlena dedicated herself full-time to love and care for her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and raised her children with gentle and nurturing hands. She was adored by her boys, and they were fortunate to be loved and cared for by such a precious mother. In the years to come, Everlena was pleased to welcome four precious grandchildren into her life. She greatly treasured them, and they were blessed by her love and were eager to receive the endless affection their grandma supplied. Everlena dedicated her life to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of Christ in Chicago. It was there she remained a faithful member until her death
