Florine Durr Obituary

Trailblazer Florine Durr was one who persevered. Florine Durr was truly a trailblazer. She was the third child of three children born to the late Eddie Burrage and Mary Alford. Florine was born in Merridian, Mississippi. Trailblazer Florine Durr and Thomas James Durr, Sr., were united in Holy matrimony in March of 1959. They moved from Meridian, Mississippi, to Chicago, Illinois, in 1959. Through this union, seven children were born. Trailblazer Florine Durr loved her children; she made many sacrifices for her children. Trailblazer Florine Durr had so many talents. She was a hairdresser, seamstress, great cook, housekeeper, and she worked in all areas of the hospitality department. Trailblazer Florine Durr retired from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in 2003. She was loved by everyone there. Florine would always receive large tips from the many beds she made. Trailblazer Florine Durr accepted Jesus and was baptized at a very young age. Florine Durr was a devoted church member. She was also church mother of the New Bread of Life Church of God in Christ under Pastor Anthony Reed. She was faithful until her health began to fail. Florine would always say just pray because prayer changes things. Trailblazer Florine Durr went through many trials and tribulations, but she didn’t give up. Florine Durr’s husband, Thomas James Durr, Sr., passed away suddenly. She became a widow and had to raise six children all by herself. Florine didn’t throw in the towel; God gave her the strength to raise her children with excellency. Trailblazer Florine Durr touched so many lives. She fed so many people and gave some shelter. Florine Durr was a great listener and motivator; she knew how to make you feel better. Trailblazer Florine Durr will truly be missed. She left us with so much wisdom; her legacy will go on. Our entire family loved her. Florine Durr, you can rest easy; you are in the Lord’s care now. On Thursday, January 6th, 2022, our Trailblazer was called from labor to reward.
