Gerald Taylor was born on March 11, 1958, in Waukegan, Illinois. He was raised by the late Rasby and Aurlett Spencer (both of whom preceded him in death).
Gerald attended Von Steuben High School, where he graduated. He continued his higher education, attending Talladega Liberal Arts College in Talladega, Alabama, for two years. He later transferred his education to Lincoln College, where he finished his studies.
Gerald started his career journey working with the City of Chicago. He then migrated over to the Chicago Transit Authority, where he worked for over thirty years until retirement.
Gerald was a loving and caring person. He took joy in making others laugh and seeing individuals around him having a good time. He loved a good “get-together,” playing dominos or spades, with some of his favorite music playing in the background. Gerald was a natural-born go-getter with tons of ambition. He was a person with initiative; making
money was a sport. Whether it was working at the CTA, selling T-shirts, playing the lottery, or having his snowcone stand out, Gerald was making money. “Family first” was also something Gerald lived by, making sure his family would want for nothing. He understood the true value behind having a loving, caring, and supportive family. He was sure to pass this value down to his children and grandchildren.
Gerald was born into Eternity on March 12, 2022, at Northwestern Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jessie Mae Henderson, two brothers-in-law, Robert Davis and Jesse Davis, and one sister-in-law, Gloria Henderson.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory: the love of his life, his wife, Linda Henderson-Taylor; one son, Gerald Taylor; one daughter, Jerrica Taylor; stepson, Jocquin Henderson; seven grandchildren, Tytiana Henderson, Jocquin Henderson, Jr., Jakya Taylor, Jaden Taylor, Bryson Taylor, Tasharia Smith, and Tasia Smith; additional daughter, Latronica Smith; one sister, Elette Taylor; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Henderson, Annete Henderson, and Angela Clay; one brother-in-law, Landa (Beverly) Henderson; one niece, Eqwesha Taylor; three special nieces, Lashawn, Lasheila, and Mesha; one nephew, Romeal Taylor; one great-nephew, Omari Taylor; two special nephews, Charles and Donnie Reeves; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
