George Iver Jernigan was born on August 24, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Leroy and elma Jernigan, both whom preceded him in death. George was the h of eight children born to Leroy and elma Jernigan. Two siblings, Janice Rogers and Debra Swanigan, preceded him in death. George Jernigan attended Jens Jensen Elementary School and Hugh Manley High School on the westside of Chicago. A er high school, George attended Washburn Trade School. It was during George’s school years that his love for basketball emerged. George played basketball during his teen years, but he remained connected to and had above-average passion and knowledge of the game throughout his life. George developed a love for Jesus at an early age and invited Christ into his heart at Greater Mt. Zion under the leadership of Pastor Brown. George later joined Bethlehem Unity under Pastor Banks where he became an ordained deacon. More recently, George joined Lively Stone MB Church under Pastor Contrell Jenkins, where he served until his health failed. Being a family-oriented man, George always maintained employment and had diverse career paths, i.e. maintenance engineer, certi ed forkli driver, and machine operator. George actually “made the donuts” at Hostess. George Jernigan united in holy matrimony with Ardella Dudley-Jernigan on June 9, 2001. To their union, three children were born: George Jernigan, Jr., Shaquan Jernigan, and Laquan Jernigan, who preceded him in death. George Jernigan leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife, Ardella; son, George Jernigan, Jr.; daughter, Shaquan Jernigan; four grandchildren, Dijon Edwards, Jr., George Jernigan III, Xavier, and Quay; siblings, Mable Parnell, Bobby Jernigan (Alice), Carl Jernigan (Shirley), Lawrence Jernigan (Joyce), Linda Jernigan, Nitagus Jernigan (Chantel), Shanell Jernigan, and Roy Charles Jernigan; mother-in-love who he cherished as his own mom, Barbara Dudley; life-long friends/ brothers, Shannon Carless, Bernard McClendon, Anthony Massey (who preceded him in death), Lonnie McNutt, and Leo Warren; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends
