A TIME TO BE BORN Sister Geraldine Ward was born to the late Priestly and Vernell Body on February 6, 1950. She was the third of ten children. She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Free-Will Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Lee Howard Ivory. She was a member of Jesus Christ Holy Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Dr. Archie Matlock, Sr. Geraldine was one of the founding members of God’s Way Gospel Church, under the leadership of Pastor John Cooley, Sr., where she served as an usher until God called her home.
A TIME TO CELEBRATE Geraldine attended John Marshall Grammar and High School. She worked many jobs but retired from Warp Plastic Company. Geraldine loved to engage in conversation; nobody was a stranger to her. Geraldine also loved to cook. She enjoyed eating and trying exotic foods. Geraldine enjoyed dancing and was the life of the party. She liked cleaning, decorating, being a hair stylist, and making flower arrangements. Geraldine loved her family and spending time during family gatherings. Geraldine also loved her pastor.
A TIME TO REST Geraldine departed this life on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 10:21 PM. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Priestly and Vernell, and six siblings, Almarie Washington, Joyce Body, Priestly Body, Jr., Garrett Body, Sr., Kin Body, and Kim Body. She leaves to cherish her homegoing: three sisters, Bertha (Pastor John) Cooley of Chicago, Illinois, Vanessa Powell of Maywood, Illinois, and Carol Ann Body, of Naperville, Illinois; nine nieces; four nephews; nine great-nieces; twenty-one great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; three great-great-nephews; four aunts and one uncle; three godchildren, Tammy Taylor, Damonty Banks, Sr., and Laquanda Banks; and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thank you to a special friend, Marie Peterson, and her cousin, Rosie Banks.
