HENRY B. EDWARDS was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, on July 9, 1934, to Henrietta Jones and Robert Lee Edwards, Sr. Henry was the fourth out of ten siblings. Eight preceded Henry in death. Henry was educated in the Greenwood, Mississippi, school system. Henry was baptized in the name of Jesus at Shiloh Apostolic Lighthouse Church under the leadership of Elder Harold R. Gumm, Sr. Henry came to Chicago in 1953 and soon found employment at Park Ridge YMCA for over 25 years. He was a hardworking man. After that, he was promoted to the head manager of maintenance of the Oak Park YMCA, from where he later retired and met and married Mildred Gibbs. He was a devoted father and loving husband and grandfather. Then, he joined the Sunrise MBC in 2004 and was a member until his health failed. He enjoyed working in his garden, cooking, riding his motorcycle, singing, and dancing with his daughter, Tiffany, and granddaughters, Taniyah and Tara Ji. His friends who knew Henry called him by his nickname, “Hank-man.” He will truly be missed. Henry leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Mildred Edwards; daughter, Tiffany; granddaughters, Taniyah “Ny Ny” and Tara Ji “Rara;” loving sister-in-law, Joan Gibbs; two sisters, three daughters, two sons, eight grandkids, and four great-grandkids; and a host of friends and other relatives. To know Hank-man was to love Hank-man.
