Jaquinn Sawyer Obituary

JaQuinn Levar Eugene Sawyer AKA “Jock” was born on October 22, 1979, to William
and Dorothy Sawyer in Chicago, Illinois. He was number seven of eight children,
weighing in at 9 lbs, 9 oz; his mom’s biggest baby. Jock’s birth was the talk of the neigh-
borhood. Folks came from near and far to welcome the new baby boy!
Jock was raised on the Westside of Chicago and formally educated in the Chicago Pub-
lic School System. He attended Ella Flagg Young Elementary School and Edwin G.
Forman High School. He also attended Southern Illinois University (SIU). Jock had a
love for food, cooking, gaming, and movies. He would go on to receive his Associate
Degree and Culinary License from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. Jock was
the family cook, griller, helper, mover, and handy man. He could do and fix anything
he put his mind to.
Jock was a brilliant, loving, caring, supportive and resourceful person. He would help
anyone. All you had to do was call and he was there! Jock touched every life he encoun-
tered with his compassion, love, and his charming smile. A son, brother, uncle, father,
cousin, caregiver, and friend to many. Jock loved his family and friends. Jock made a
lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He believed in God and his mighty pow-
ers. He accepted him as his Lord and Savior! Jock often stated he doesn’t fear anything.
God is always in control!
He was preceded in death by his Father, William Sawyer; paternal grandparents; ma-
ternal grandfather; four uncles; and five aunts.
Jock transitioned from life to eternal life on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 8:28 PM.
