Jeanette Yvonne Owens was born June 20, 1954, in Jackson, Tennessee, to Willie Lee Pirtle, Sr., and Nancy Faye Pirtle. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joseph Nathaniel Owens, Sr.; son-in-love, Anthony Gooden, Sr.; and siblings, Jane F. Winn, Joanie Pirtle-Barnes, Jerry Pirtle, Sr., Claude D. Pirtle, and Jimmy D. Pirtle. Jeanette was educated in the Chicago public school system and attended George Westinghouse College Prep, where she graduated in 1972. In June of 1972, she was united in holy matrimony to John Lavell Owens. She confessed her love in Christ at a very young age. She served the Lord at New Mt. Sinai M. B. Church and Christian Love M. B. Church, where she loved to worship and sing in the choir. Jeanette became a Chicago police officer on January 2, 1991, where she dedicated herself to protecting the streets of Chicago until she retired in February of 2012. She was an Eastern Star and an Order of Police Lodge 7 member. She loved cooking, music, singing, dancing, and above all, spending quality time with her family and friends. To know her was to love her! Jeanette departed this life on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Josetta Powe and Jamie Owens-Gooden; bonus daughters, Shazada Pirtle, Nancy Pirtle, and C’vita Owens-Palm; siblings, Judy Harper, Jocquelene Pirtle-Lee, Joraski Pirtle (Gigi), Jeffrey Pirtle, Sr., (Nicole), Rebbie Pirtle-Smith (Leon), Willie Mae Pirtle, Debra Ann Pirtle (Bruce), Willie Pirtle, Jr., Kevin Pirtle, and Kenny Pirtle; brother-in-law, John Barnes, Jr.; additional siblings, Betty Jean Brooks, Larry Brooks, Valencia Burton, and Paul King (Shirley); one aunt, Patricia King; two uncles, Thomas Harris and Jonathan Perry; grandchildren, Mary (Charles), Ambrea, Jasmine (DeOnte Sr.), Jamell, Jamon, Joseph Jr., Jelisa, Christina, Ashley (Tyrone), Anthony Jr., Vonisha, and Lavita; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; godmother, Katie Thomas; best friend, Diane Baker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
