Johnny Jenkins Obituary

Johnny L. Jenkins, “J.R.”, was gifted to us on March 5, 1984 to the proud parents of Johnnie and Jenice Johnson. J.R. was blessed with many talents. He was a sports enthusiast at an early age. He began playing football at Portage Park and later found love for basketball. He was affectionately known as “Super Star J.R.” on the basketball court. He was a force to be reckoned with. He taught his sons, nephews, and many others how to play ball. J.R. was our family handyman and mechanic. He would stop whatever he was doing to come help anyone who needed him, whether it was fixing a car, painting, he’s even helped to build a house, J.R. was our person to call. J.R. had a love for cooking and grilling. He became our family chef for all of our gatherings. He would grab his chair, sunflower seeds, drink, and play his old school music while having the house and yard smelling good. J.R. was a loveable person with a kindred spirit and a protector to all of his loved ones and friends. Many didn’t know he had an amazing voice, he would silence a room when he sung, if he knew you were listening to him, he would laugh and stop singing. He had a love for pitbull dogs. J.R. was a jokester. He also loved playing cards and dominoes with his family and friends. He was the life of every party. J.R. loved his family and understood the family he created was a priority; his fiance and three children meant the world to him. He had a very active role in his children’s lives. He showed his children unconditional love, not only did he provide, he was their protector and they could go to him for anything and he would always be there for them. He showed his daughter what it meant to be loved and respected by a real man. J.R. also demonstrated to his boys how to be a real man. J.R. had a bond with all of his siblings, but had a special place in his heart for all his nieces and nephews. They affectionately called him “uncle chief mookie,” as well as a unique bond with his godson. J.R. understood the importance of education. He glided through the school systems with ease, he attended Jane Addams Elementary School and later attended Proviso East High School where he graduated in 2002. J.R. began working while in high school. His first job was at UPS. He later began working for Lakeview Bus Lines where he received his CDL’s. He then went on to work for TH Ryan/Steiner Electric for 10 years as a Truck Driver. On August 13, 2024, God called J.R. home from this sinful land. While heartbroken, we find comfort in knowing that we will reunite with him again. J.R. was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Jenice Johnson; grandparents, Lewis and Minnie Jenkins and Louella and James Johnson; three uncles, Derik Jenkins, Walter Allen, and James Johnson; one aunt, Diana Jenkins; and several cousins. He leaves to cherish his most precious memories: his fiance, Morrissa Carr; daughter, Morriah; two sons, Jh’yair and Jhamyrin; godson, Rashawn; three sisters, Shuntavia (Keith), Londen (Earl), and Jasmine; three brothers, Marcus (Maria), Aaron, and Tyrece; godbrother, Micheal Moore; nine nieces, JaKeiyah, Journee, Jayah, Samaya, Jamia, Jenice, Sa’Rai, Selia, and Selis; five nephews, Ju’Mari, E’Majae, Jamel, Syre’, and Lamar; eleven aunts, Lillie, Alesia, Shirley Collins, Trinette, Tierra, Sabrina, Khadata, Sandy, Debra Ann, Shirley, and Ruby; five uncles, Napolean, Danny, John, James, and Joe Willie; three special cousins, Sabrina, Lamont, and Felicia; two best friends, Dorian and Lewis; and a host of cousins, friends, and other relatives who loved him dearly.
