Joseph Martin Crawford, a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and a faithful servant of God whose life touched many. Joseph Martin Crawford was born on January 13, 1949, in Summit Argo, IL. Joseph was born to the late William Crawford Sr. and Dorothy Crawford. In September 1971, Joseph married the love of his life, Addie Ann Crawford, and a beautiful daughter, Tashaunda Crawford, was born. They were married until she was called home to be with the Lord in 2022. He attended Argo High School and graduated with the Class of 1967. Joseph later developed a strong work ethic that carried through his life, his time at Lever Brothers Company, and his 19 years at Nielsen Bainbridge, where he retired. He also served his community faithfully as a part-time crossing guard in Summit Argo, IL, for 16 years. Joseph was a dedicated member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where he rededicated his life and served faithfully under the leadership of Reverend Jimmie Daniels. His commitment to his church and his spiritual life was a guiding force throughout his life. Joseph enjoyed watching sports, especially football, basketball, baseball, and bowling, as well as Western movies and the television show The Heat of the Night. He was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan. Those who knew him will remember his wisdom, strength, and love, as well as his time spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, church family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. On Sunday, March 8th, 2026, Joseph received his wings and entered into eternal rest to be with his Heavenly Father, his parents, siblings, and his wife. Preceding Joseph in death were his parents, William Sr. and Dorothy Crawford; his wife, Addie Ann Crawford; and his four siblings, one sister, Carmita Watkins, three brothers, Richard Barney, Gilbert Barney (Roz), and William Crawford Jr. Joseph leaves to cherish his memories and legacy: his only daughter, Tashaunda Crawford-Clark (Jerome), two sons, Joseph Crawford Jr. and Roshun Crawford, and one bonus daughter, Dr. Schevanda Nix (Robert). He was also blessed with three grandchildren, Ra’Shaunda Clark, Rannel Clark Jr, and Ryan Clark, and nine bonus grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, Ra’Shawn Clark and Ra’Yana Clark, and two other bonus great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. One brother-in-law, John Brandon Jr. (Brenda), and three sisters-in-law, Associate Pastor Evelyn Crawford, Mary Ann Gordon, and Ann Barney, and two cousins, Anna Wells (Thomas) and Edward Smith (Pam), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends, and a special companion, Darnetta Fleming. Joseph’s legacy of faith, dedication, and love will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
