Her Story Born on January 31, 1989, in her beloved city of Chicago, IL., Joslyn Renee Terry was the youngest daughter of Michael Fisher and Carolyn Terry. She shared her childhood home with her sister, Jervara Toshica, and was affectionately known as “Pookie” by her Grandma Rosie and Grandpa Bob. Joslyn’s journey was colored by experiences that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. Growing up in the embrace of the New Mission Temple COGIC, under the leadership of the late Elder Herbert Purkett, Sr., she had been an active participant in various church activities. She was a member of the local Sunshine Band, Purity Band, and traveled with the Lakeshore District Drill team under the direction of Sister Iris Calloway. Joslyn’s academic journey began at Les Finch Learning Tree Pre-School, followed by O.A. Theory Academy, where she demonstrated exceptional aptitude. Her educational pursuits culminated in a distinguished graduation from William Howard Taft High School. Throughout her academic career, Joslyn achieved high honors, with a particular proficiency in Mathematics and English. She demonstrated her commitment to education by enrolling in a two-year college program, which she completed in just one year and shortly after began working toward her bachelor’s degree. Joslyn commenced her professional career at Davis and MK Cleaners. However, her fervent passion for child development led her to the Chicago Public School system (CPS), specifically the Marine Leadership Academy. There, she was not only instrumental in working with young minds but also formed lasting friendships with her colleagues. Her relentless pursuit of excellence led to numerous opportunities for advancement, of which she was justifiably proud. Beyond her esteemed professional endeavors, she was a compassionate contributor to community service, working with The Happy to Help Organization to host enriching events for youth and families. Joslyn’s adventurous spirit knew no limits. She reveled in exploring the world, immersing herself in diverse cultures, and embracing the beauty of each experience. In 2010, Joslyn’s life took a new direction when she met her firstborn and one true love, Jayden Marquise Thomas (byway of Cory Thomas). From that moment on, she became a devoted mother pouring her love and wisdom into Jayden. She nurtured his dreams, instilled values of kindness and compassion, and even embarked on a business venture by opening a vending machine business in the summer of 2022. Joslyn’s flair extended beyond education and motherhood—she possessed an innate sense of style and elegance that captivated those around her. Her love for dressing up transcended mere appearance—it was a reflection of her inner vibrancy and zest for life. Joslyn’s presence was the glue that held her generation together. She was a great administrator, leading her cousins in creating memories with each other that built a connection between them all. From playing cards in the basement, to piling up in a car to go to Lake Michigan, she showed her family love through the things they experienced together. Her passing has deeply affected her family, friends, colleagues, and the broader community. Joslyn Renee Terry, a vibrant soul, cherished for her boundless love, adventurous spirit, and unwavering dedication to her son, family, and friends, passed away on May 7, 2024, at the age of 35. While she may no longer walk among us, Joslyn’s spirit lives on through cherished memories and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be remembered for her unique style, compassionate heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering passion for life’s opportunities.
