Latasha Shennett Sturkey- Gibson

Latasha Shenett Sturkey, affectionally known as “Tasha,” was born and raised in Chicago, IL, to Charles Sturkey and Phyllis Sturkey, both of whom preceded her in death. Latasha was born on December 21, 1978, at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, IL. Latasha attended Henry Nash Elementary School in Chicago. After graduating from Nash School, Latasha went on to attend Austin High School in Chicago, IL, but continued her education and received her diploma from Academy of Scholastic Achievement (ASA), also located in Chicago. In April of 1997, Latasha met the love of her life, Antoine Gibson, Sr. Within 28 years of them being together, they conceived two beautiful, smart, intelligent children, Antoinette Gibson and Antoine Gibson, Jr., and having a grandchild, “grandboy” as she called him, Micah McSwain. On September 27, 2014, Antoine, Sr. and Latasha became the perfect union and known as Antoine Gibson, Sr. and Latasha Shenett Sturkey-Gibson. Latasha departed her life on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. To know Latasha was to love her. She touched everyone and everywhere she went with her pretty brown eyes, her beautiful smile, her laughter, and finally her turning up the party dancing, just as her mother Phyllis. Latasha worked for Mars Candy Factory located in Oak Park, IL, for eleven years. Later on in 2017, she begin working with Chicago public schools at Hansen and Nash public schools for eight years. Latasha was preceded in death by both her parents, Charles Sturkey and Phyllis Sturkey; niece, Davane’ Gross; and nephew, Charles Dorsey, Jr. Latasha leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Antoine Gibson, Sr.; two children, Antoinette Gibson and Antoine Gibson, Jr.; grandboy, Micah McSwain; twelve siblings, Anastasia Sturkey-Bass (Zachery), Charles Dorsey, Sr. (Sharon), Quintina Dorsey-Payton (Kelvin), Emor Sturkey, Charles Sturkey, Sherita Sturkey-Nixon (Shaun), Yvonne Sturkey-Thomas (Terence), Anthony Sturkey, Starr Sturkey, Juhun Sturkey, Dennis Sturkey, and Briennan Sturkey; three aunts, Gail Ross, Linda Sturkey, and Barbara Sturkey; bonus mother, Yvette Dorsey; bonus father, Freddie Latimore; two sisters-in-law, Anglea Gibson and Annette Gibson; best friend and godmother of her children, Jamila Payton; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends
