Leon Hawkins Obituary

On September 7, 1959, an angel sung his way into the the world and was born to Mr. Eddie Terrell and Mrs. Sarah McCullough in Chicago, Illinois. It was in Chicago that Leon attended church frequently as a child with his mom and then father, Fredrick McCullough. While attending church, he was baptized in the name of the Lord.
While growing up in Chicago, Leon attended Chicago Public Schools. As a kid, he enjoyed having tons of fun with his brother, Andre, and close cousin, Otis. They pretty much did everything together. Family was very important to Leon, and he showed it.
In 1982, Leon composed the greatest song ever when he met the love of his life, Darlene Martin. They were inseparable and loved each other very deeply. While he previously played two keys before his symphony with Darlene, together they played six more keys in the coming years. They were madly in love, and no one could break their bond.
On February 11, 2015, Leon and Darlene managed to compose a huge and historic piece by tying the knot and making that piece official. That symphony carried them into happiness. Throughout the years while raising six keys and enjoying life with his wife, Leon managed to build so many unforgettable relationships. He accepted brothers and sisters that weren’t his and loved them all the same way. Leon was a perfect example of a great father and great provider. He was a man of God and didn’t fear anything. He lived life to the fullest.
Leon was preceded in death by his father, Frederick D. McCullough; his brother, Andre Hawkins; his grandma, Willie Locke; his uncle, Walter Locke; and his grandson, Davion Taylor.
Leon is survived by: his wife, Darlene Hawkins; his eight keys, Paris Lyles (Travis Lyles), Leon Terrell Bates, Novina Neal, Lester Neal, LaShaad Martin (Shenique Martin), Leondra Martin, Naisha Reed (Dewayne Reed), and Leon Martin (Angel Martin); his thirty-three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and close friends – and let’s not forget his favorite pet, Bella Baby
