Leroy Phipps was born on May 14, 1942, in Tillatoba, Mississippi, to the late LB and Monnie Mae Phipps. Leroy was the rst child born to this union. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Edward and Lewis, and his sister elma Lee Phipps. In November of 1946, the Phipps family relocated to Chicago, Illinois, on the North side. Leroy was baptized at First Grace M. B. Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Nathan Shorter, Sr., and also attended Moody Bible Institute. Leroy was educated and attended the Chicago public school system, graduating from Sumner Elementary School and John Marshall High School. Leroy met the love of his life, Lottie Mae Campbell, in November of 1962. It had to be love at rst sight ‘cause on May 13, 1963, they said “I Do,” and did until death do part. Lee lived his life as a provider, devoted to his wife and family, never seeking recognition. While he would simply call himself “Just e Man” to his loved ones, he was their strength, security, “Mr. Fix It To All” and “Mr. Got Jokes,” the one who made sure doors were locked, worries were eased, and needs were met without hesitation. Lee never lost his sense of humor during his sickness. Lee’s work history started at Sunbeam, then more than 20 years at Sears Roebuck & Co., then a short time at Montgomery Wards. He retired from Walgreens at the young age of 70. His favorite pastimes were gardening, bowling, shing with the family, barbecuing, and listening to his favorite old school R&B music, especially Al Green Love & Happiness. Leroy departed this Life on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at AccentCare in Naperville, Illinois. Leroy leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 62 years, Lottie Mae; three sons, Demario, Antonio, and Khalid; three grandchildren, Antonio, Ariel, and Arayah; brothers, Roger, Larry (Jacqueline), and Drexel Phipps; sister, Bonita (Frank) Harris; nieces, Delores (Joseph), Sharisse (Jermaine), Tiara, Towanda, Sharda, and Brianca; four great nieces, Shonice, Katrina, Monique, and Selena; two great-nephews, Deshawn and Patrice; his favorite great-nephew, Jaiden Gardley; numerous great-great-nieces and nephews; one uncle, IV (Ruby) Phipps; one aunt, Cloudia Mae Phipps; sisters-in-law, Barbie Rae, Jessie Ann, Carolyn (Jimmy), Priscilla, Sabrina, Carrie, and Mable; brothers-in-laws, James (Paula), Brad (Sylvia), and Ed Campbell; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
