To everything there is a season, a time to be born. Lewis Walker was born on July 21, 1936, in Perry County, Alabama, to Lewis Walker, Sr., and Lenora Pharr Walker. Being their first boy and second child, the Walker family continued to grow. Along with Amelia Page and Lewis, the Walker family did not stop there, they continued to grow. His other brothers and sisters included Oscar and Henry Walker, Willie Mae Williams, and Rebecca Johnson. The family then extended to Roxie Walker Jones, Patricia, and Sammy and Robert Walker. Also included in the family were Augusta, Arthur, Juanita Stevens, and Mamie S. Jones. His parents, Lewis and Leola Walker, both preceded him in death, then his siblings, Oscar Walker, Patricia Walker, and Willie Mae Williams of Selma, Alabama, Henry Walker and Rebecca Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Augusta, and Arthur and Juanita Stevens of Selma, Alabama. Lewis attended Lincoln High School in Selma, Alabama, before leaving. Having a desire to succeed in life, Lewis migrated to the North. His journey landed him in Chicago where he undertook many different jobs until he found his niche in truck driving. Working for the Pacific Wine Company as their number-one driver, Lewis recruited his cousin, Robert Walker, and later his son, Anthony Brown, as drivers with the company. He worked for the company until his retirement. As part of his love of driving, Lewis was familiar with all the major highways and backroads. There was no highway, route, or toll road that Lewis hadn’t traveled. He loved to talk about where he had traveled and the things he had seen. Loving the game of bowling, Lewis bowled on the Southside, Westside, nearby suburbs in Cincinnati, Detroit, El Paso, Las Vegas, and Reno with the TNBA, and the USBC Nationals. Having a great handicap, you could count on people to find him a great partner in the Men’s Singles, Doubles, and Team Tournaments. He was involved in many leagues around the city. He also won many awards, especially for perfect attendance. Always willing to serve, Lewis joined the Goshen SDA Church and became the gatekeeper of the church. He was a welcome sight and very dependable, especially for seniors who depended on public transportation and needed to be able to get into the church. He helped prepare for Sabbath School by having everything ready for lesson study. He sat in the front row, raising his hands in praise, clapping, and enjoying praising the Lord. He was known for his love of sweets, so it was no problem to find him helping and serving on the food committee as needed. And as Ecclesiastes 3:2 says, a time to die, Lewis answered his call to rest from this troubled world on Monday, January 20, 2025. Lewis was blessed with loving children who talked with him often over the phone, and grandchildren who came running when they heard grandpa was in town for a visit. His sons, Anthony Brown and Lewis Walker, Jr., both preceded him in death. Lewis leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughters, Theresa Brown Richmond of Chicago, Illinois, and Lisa Walker McGaha (Eric) of Bourbonnais, Illinois; sons, Bennie Walker (Myra) of Pembroke Township, Illinois, and Robert Walker (Jacqueline) of Millbrooke, Alabama; stepsons, Rodney Peoples of Chicago, William Peoples of Joliet, and John Jackson of Chicago, Illinois; sisters, Amelia Page, Roxie Walker Jones of Selma, Alabama, and Mamie S.
