Lillie Barnes-Brown Obituary

Lillie Mae Barnes was born on February 3, 1950, to Lillian Barnes and William Barnes. She was the fourth of thirteen children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Barnes and William Barnes; husband, Tommy Lewis; brother, William Barnes, Jr.; sisters, Claudine Winters, Mary Winters Conner, and Margaret Child; and nephews, Jimmy H. Love, Jr., Tyrone Barnes, James L. Barnes, and Derick Childs. Lillie attended school in Ville, Mississippi. She was united in holy matrimony to Tommy L. Brown. Lillie confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in the 1950s. She moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1967 where she joined Greater Garfield Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend George Henderson. She served as president of the nurses board until she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. She moved to Gary, Indiana, in 2022 until her health failed her and God saw fit to call her home on May 15, 2023. Lillie leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters, Shirley (Martin) Phillips Clayton and Shirnail Brown; three grandchildren, Bianca Phillips, Tinisha Jones, and Devonta Phillips; three greatgrandchildren, Ja’Nayla Jones, Jabari Jones, and Andearanna Phillips; sisters, Rosie Barnes, Beatrice (Jimmy Sr.), Bessie Jackson, Florda Childs, Earleen (Frank Sr.) Davis, Bobby Barnes, and Jacqueline Barnes; one brother, Kenny Brown; one nephew, Tony (Wanda) Barnes who was raised as her brother; one godson, Timothy Childs and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends
