God bless the day when he gave Delores Nalls and Roosevelt Weaver, a
baby boy by the name of Marco Sterling Nalls. Marco was born
on August 28, 1990, at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago.
Marco was a beautiful, chubby, and silky-haired baby with cherry jubilee
lips who was especially adored by all his family and their fondness of him
granted him several nicknames over the years. He was offen referred to
as “Chubb Rock,” “Weaver with a Fever,” “Weev,” “Sterlman,” “Whoa,”
“Marbo,” “Bobo Crip,” “Bobo,” “Bone,” “FAT,” and “Shorty.”
Marco attended Francis Scott Key Elementary and Frederick Douglass
Jr. High Schools on the westside of Chicago where he lived all his life,
and he was active in sports. He played football with the Windy City
Dolphins at Amundsen Park for several years, and he also attended
Foreman and Crane High Schools until 2007.
Marco was a quiet boy and observer to much so that he was often called
an “old soul” for being a neutral, nonchalant, and laid-back person. He
was an introvert through and through, but you couldn’t tell when he
was around his family, specifically his cousins and his niece, Ari, and
nephew, Roc, because that’s when he opened up the most, dancing and
having fun. Being raised by his mother who was a nurse, the nurturing
and insight she provided gave him the intel on how to deal with the
world with a generous spirit and to do well for others as he often looked
out for his younger cousins. Yet more than anyone, Marco cared for his
beloved mother, Delores. One of his greatest joys was being not just a
son to her but a friend to her as well. Without complaint, Marco was
humbled to give back to her everything she gave to him, and during the
last years of his life, he was her caregiver after her retirement. In 2009,
another girl joined in becoming the apple of his eye when his daughter,
Myesha, was born. There wasn’t anything Marco wouldn’t do for his
mother and his babygirl.
Marco worked for the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce for over
five years, and while there, he became apart of another family. It is there
that he made lifelong bonds and friendships with his coworkers. It was
with great devastation to them as well as his family and friends when
on October 16, 2022, Marco unexpectedly passed away while at home
with his mom. No one could fathom this would happen just a month
and a half after his 32nd birthday, but we believe that God had a bigger
purpose for taking Marco so soon.
Marco was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Weaver,
grandmothers, Rose Nalls and Maple Weaver, uncle, Harold Coleman,
cousin, Mario Allen, and another cousin with whom he shared a very
special bond, Jeffrey Mattix, Jr.
Marco leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Delores Nalls; daughter
and only child, Myesha Nalls; older sister, Mia Walker; sisters, Alea and
Jasmiine; brother, Rocky; auntie and uncles, Jania, Gail, Alfonzo, Edith,
Priscilla, Sheri, Annette, Cozette, and Felicia; nephews, Gregory, a.k.a.
“Roc,” Chase, and Odin; niece, Ariana; as well as dozens of cousins and
other family friends who loved him dearly.
