Mark Anthony Kirksy, Sr., was the third of seven children to Michael and Velma Kirksy. He was born at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, on February 11, 1957. He was a loving father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. On October 15, 2024, at 5:08 PM, he departed this life in the comfort of the home in which he grew up, surrounded by loved ones. Mark Anthony was educated in the Argo Public School System and completed his studies at Argo Community High School. He also attended Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. In 1975, Mark obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was added to the Church of Christ in Maywood, Illinois, under the leadership of the late Brother Duel Ghant, Sr. He loved and admired Brother Ghant and his ministry. For many years, Brother Mark Kirksy was a very dedicated Christian, and he worked diligently in the church. He was a fill-in song leader, Sunday school superintendent, and youth director. While leading the youth ministry, he led the youth to become the Church of Christ areawide Bible Bowl Champions. Mark had a deep love for reading the Bible, and he read it in its entirety ten times. He served as a Little League coach and as an avid chess player; he taught many youths how to play the game successfully. Mark was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed nature watching, participated in various sports games, and when necessary, created his own games. He loved photography and cooking breakfast. Mark Anthony loved to eat, and he could fend for himself. He could go into the kitchen and make something out of nothing. In November 1983, Mark married Rochelle Hart and they began a family of five. Throughout the marriage, three children were born. Mark Anthony worked several jobs during his lifetime, and the longest job he worked was with Chemtainer for over 17 years. Known as “BeBop,” Mark enjoyed listening to jazz music and playing the bongos, pool, and ping-pong. He was a fan of talk radio, especially the Rush Limbaugh Show. He liked riding his bike in the neighborhood and spending time with his grandchildren. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Velma Kirksy, and daughter, Martina Renee Kirksy. He is survived by his children: David (Shaven) Hart, Shanta Hart, Anthony (Latesha) Hart, Marchelle (Clinton) Spruill, and Mark Kirsky, Jr. He is also survived by his siblings: Michael (Wanda) Kirksy, Jr., Marvin Kirksy, Manuel Kirksy, Mel (LaTressa) Kirksy, Monica (Vincent) Mahan, and Darlene (Wendell) Hart. Additionally, he is survived by his two uncles: Edmon (Beverly) Kirksy, and Lee Kirksy; aunt: Geneva Kirksy; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; cousins; many long-time friends; and friend Cynthia Cooper
