Martina Renee Kirksy

Martina Renee Kirksy was born on March 7, 1990, in Chicago, Illinois to Mark and Rochelle Kirksy. She was the youngest of six children. Martina resided in Maywood, Illinois and attended and graduated from Lexington Elementary and Proviso East High Schools. Martina obeyed the Gospel of Christ at an early age. She was baptized at the Maywood Church of Christ under the leadership of the late Duel Ghant, Sr. She loved Sunday school, worship, singing, and fellowship with her family in Christ. Martina loved her family. Although Martina bore no children, she was a godmother to four children and treated each of them as her own. Martina was a great friend and confidant to many. Martina held dear to heart her bonus sister-friends. She loved to lend a helping hand and encouraged all whom she came across. Martina loved to shop and was always dressed to impress. Martina was a dedicated, hard worker; she believed in following a task to the end. Martina loved her independence and worked hard to keep it intact. Martina was employed by Advocate Aurora Health. Martina enjoyed life and all those she’d come to know. She loved spending time with her loved ones. She loved music, dancing, and of course shopping. Martina battled with cancer for several years, never giving into it. She believed in the power of God. Martina once said there’s a time when everyone should meet God. God saw fit on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 7:30 AM, that Martina Renee Kirksy should suffer no more. He called His loving child home. Martina was preceded in death by her grandparents, Calvin A. Hart, Sr., Michael, and Velma Kirksy. Martina leaves to cherish her memory: her parents, Mark, and Rochelle Kirksy; three brothers, David Hart (Shavon), Anthony Hart (Latasha), and Mark Kirksy, Jr.; two sisters, Shanta Blanton (Barry) and Marchelle Spruill (Clinton); grandmother, Mattie O. Hart; a handful of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and a bonus mother, Mary Johnson.
