Maurice Reynolds was born on
October 12, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to the
late Jay Wilkerson and Rosemary Reynolds
Claybon. He was the eldest of six children.
He was preceded in death by his brothers,
Robert Claybon, Jr., and Joe Claybon, and his
sister, Veronica Taylor.
Maurice was educated in the Chicago public school
system and graduated from Hyde Park High School.
He continued his education through higher studies
following graduation.
At an early age, Maurice gave his life to Christ at Zion
Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership
of the late Reverend F. D. Johnson. He faithfully served
in the choir and was mentored on the organ by Sister
Violet Payne.
Maurice later relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where
he joined the Berea Church of God in Christ and sang
with the Howard Lemon Singers. During his time in
Detroit, he worked for New Detroit Receiving Hospital
and Chrysler Corporation. Seeking new opportunities,
he eventually moved to California to further his career.
After several years, Maurice returned to Chicago, where
he remained until God called him home.
Maurice departed this life on Tuesday, November 4, at
the University of Chicago Hospital. He loved fishing
and cherished family picnics with his grandmother,
great-grandmother, and the many cousins who were
more like siblings to him.
Maurice will always be
remembered for his signature,
infectious laughter.
He leaves to cherish his memory:
his sisters, Diana and Pamela
(Larry); spiritual mentor, Violet
Payne; special friend, Alfred
Wormley; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends
who will miss him dearly.
