The Foxy Lady, Mazell “Tut” Campbell was born July 6, 1935, in Tuskegee, Alabama, to the union of Dan Austin, Sr., and Johnnie Mae Austin. At the age of three, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, to 256 North Maplewood Street. She later attended Tennyson Elementary School and went on to graduate from John Marshall High school. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry G. Campbell; daughter, Regina Campbell; granddaughter, Nikeia Campbell; mother, Johnnie Mae Austin; father, Dan Austin, Sr.; sisters, Polly, Billie, Rosa Lee, Lavern, and Theresa; brothers, Willie, Charles, Federick, and Sam Jr. Mazell accepted Christ at an early age at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Elijah Hatch. At the age of 19, she confessed her love in holy matrimony to Henry G. Campbell on May 15, 1954. To this union, they were blessed with seven children. Mazell enjoyed life to the fullest. She was truly the G.O.A.T. She loved her family. She enjoyed spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grands. Mazell had an amazing memory. You could always expect a call from her on your birthday. She literally remembered EVERYONE’s birthday. She enjoyed playing cards, especially tunk. There was only one person like Mazell. She gave unselfishly. Mazell was the person you called for help, love, and advice. She had a way of making you feel special; whether you were her “foxy lady” or her “handsome man”. She would make you feel like you were her only favorite. Mazell’s presence would light up a room and melt hearts. Out of the 87 years of living, the only time Mazell went to the hospital was to give birth to her children. She was never sick. Using home remedies, daily breakfast, and favorite snacks kept her healthy. To know Mazell was to love her, and her love will forever be unmatched. Mazell departed this life on Saturday, December 3, 2022, in her home. Mazell’s legacy will continue through: her six children, Roxanne, Derrick, Darnell, Sherese (Carlton), Lynette (Darryl), and Tanya; one sister, Minnie; one brother, Dan Austin, Jr. (Elmetra); nine grandchildren, Latoya, Lakedia, Delmira, Darryl Jr., Donte, Deshaun, Shaneice, Courtney, and Tralese; thirteen greatgrandchildren; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends. A wife, a mother, a grandmother, and great grandmother, this is the legacy we have from you. But as God calls us home one by one, the chain will link again
