MELVIN BUTCHER was born on Friday, April 3, 1964, to the late Alex Butcher and Odessa Hunt. He had two brothers, Larry and Troy, and two sisters, Adriene and Carolyn, whom he was quite fond of. In his youth, he was quiet or it seemed that way to the family. He was also a self-proclaimed solo roller, and the ladies loved that handsome face and tall stature. Melvin loved to swim and play basketball. Melvin, better known as “Butch,” graduated from Creiger High School in June of 1982. He held many jobs over the years, but the longest running job was his position at LifeSource Blood Bank as a telerecruiter. Melvin was a cool yet laid-back brother with a smile that could light up a room. Melvin met LaCosta, and soon after, they married January 24, 1984, in a small intimate ceremony. Melvin enjoyed watching the news early in the morning and then after his sci-fi movies. One of his favorite shows to watch on MTV was “Jersey Shore.” He was a devoted family man and will be very much remembered as a loving “girls' dad” and the cool, dependable uncle. Melvin passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025. He is survived by his wife, LaCosta; daughter, Matrice; brothers, Larry and Troy (Mona); sister, Carolyn; he also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Lazaria, Samiya, Laziya, Destini, and Ky’ier; nieces, Kenyatta, Nakkia, and Ieshea; nephews, Jawaan, Muriell, and Martise; and a numerous amount of other nieces, nephews, greats, cousins, and friends. In his passing, Melvin joins his mother, Odessa; sister, Adriene; grandniece, Torteasha; and several beloved aunts and uncles.
