Mildred Luellen “Toosie” was born March 2, 1945, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to the late Ruth Kelly Ferguson and Tom Ferguson. As a child, Mildred and her family moved from Memphis, Tennessee, to Chicago, Illinois. Mildred graduated from Crane High School in 1963. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend Thomas at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. In 1968, Mildred married James Luellen in Chicago, Illinois. To this union, three children were welcomed. Mildred started her career as a cook for the Head Start Program at the Salvation Army where she worked for over thirty years. Mildred loved cooking. Baking cakes and pies for her family was one of her greatest joys. She made everything with love, and anyone who ever tasted one of her cakes can attest. Mildred was very family-oriented. She would do anything to make sure her family was always happy. She loved her family and they knew they were always welcome in her home. Sadly, Mildred departed this life on June 26, 2023. Mildred leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Roshunda Luellen (Mike); beautiful grandchildren, Jeffery Jackson, Jr. (Melanie), Charla Luellen (Carl), Ashley Eagle, and Ronnie Luellen, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Santez Jr., Chaelynn, Veronica, Paul, and Jeffery III; nephew, Brian Ferguson; son-inlaw, Charles Mitchell; special son, Charles O’Banner; three sisters, Rose, Katherine, and Mae; six brothers, Bobby, Drue (Maria), Thomas, Melvin (Donna), Michael, and Ronald (Larissa); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her Marshfield family. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth; father, Tom; stepmother, Gladys; husband, James; children, Belinda and Ronnie; sisters, Voncile, Hattie, and Helen; and brothers, James, Clarence, Kenneth, and Lamark.
