Cynthia Cook was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 20, 1952, to the
union of Richard and Sadie Cook. She was the sixth among seven children.
She graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1970, and in 1973, she graduated from Olive-Harvey College and received her Registered Nursing License. She was a dedicated school nurse at Thornridge High School for 22 years from which she retired on May 31, 2016.
On February 8, 1975, Cynthia was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Harold Lane, Sr. They were married for 33 years until the Lord called Pastor Harold Lane home on August 8, 2008.
In 1970, Cynthia Lane was saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost at Peter Rock COGIC at the age of 18 years old. Mother Cynthia Lane truly loved her church, Peter Rock. She served in a variety of ministries. In her younger years, she served as choir director and secretary of Prayer and Bible Band and YPWW. When she matured in the Lord, she served as church secretary, board member, prayer warrior, and finally, church mother. Whatever her hands found to do, she did it diligently and to the glory of God. She served as the pastor’s wife alongside Pastor Harold Lane, Sr., for 13 years. Through God’s grace, many souls were saved and restored during their tenure. Mother Cynthia Lane labored faithfully for over 50 years under five succeeding pastors at Peter Rock.
She was called from labor to reward on October 1, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harold Lane, Sr., and one son, James Lane.
Mother Cynthia Cook Lane leaves to cherish her memory: her six children, Carmono Lane, Charity Lane, Harold Lane, Jr., Jonathan Lane, Timothy Lane, and Stephen Lane (Linnelle); one sister, Hartence Cook; three sisters- in-law, Margaret Cook, Beverly Lane, and Andrena Lane Trotter; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the Peter Rock church family, and innumerable other relatives and friends.
One of Mother Cynthia Lane’s favorite scriptures:
“Be still and know that I am God...” Psalm 46:1
