Mother Johnnie Streater Obituary

Johnnie Mae Streater was born in Leesburg, FL, on October 28, 1942, to Annie Lee Davis and Samuel Streater. She transitioned this life on September 11, 2024. She was preceded in death by both her parents; brothers, Wesley and David Streater; younger sister, Sammie Ruth Anderson; of course, her twin sister, Annie Mae Streater; and her son, LaShunn Streater. She is survived by her daughter, Tamond Streater. Johnnie Mae, “GRANNY,” “NAH-MAE,” or “Momma-Streater” as we all called her, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into her life in the early 70s!!! Her first church, Chicago Miracle Temple, formerly known as the Regal Theatre, located on the Southside of Chicago, 79th Street and Stony Island Avenue, was founded by R. W. Schambach. Johnnie Mae graduated from Fifth Avenue High School located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1962. After graduating, she worked for the Illinois Department of Public Aid as a devoted Caseworker for over 30 years prior to retirement. Johnnie Mae was a true woman of God, very much revered by family, friends, and even strangers upon moving to the Westside of Chicago in 1978. And because she never bothered to obtain a driver’s license, she became a lifelong customer of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), riding the bus for over 30 years!!! And when the neighborhood spotted her coming up the street, everyone PANICKED and everything CEASED, including ALL PROFANITY!!! All baseball caps were immediately removed and placed behind their backs, as well as all dice, beer cans, and liquor bottles, leaving only one question to be asked... How was your day, Miss Streater??? Johnnie Mae leaves to mourn her daughter, Tamond Streater; five grandchildren, Carla, Carl Jr. (CJ), Cayla, Keeta, and Brad; six great-grandchildren, Terrence Jr., Nina-Mae, Jordan (Jojo), Kristen, Khristen, and Harmony; one nephew, John Streater; three nieces, Lynette Anderson and Sonya and Carla Streater; and a host of other family and friends. Johnnie Mae was the true rock of the family and will be deeply missed!!!
