Mother Odell Green

The beautiful sunrise for Odell Green began on August 8, 1925, in Texarkana, Texas. She was blessed with ninety-seven years of life. Odell was a gift to Pearl and George from God, both of whom preceded her in death. Odell attended school in Texarkana, Texas, and afterwards the family moved to Argo, Illinois, in 1941. She became a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church in 1967, fifty-two years ago under the then pastorage of Reverend Blackwell. She lived a wonderful life in Argo, where she met and married Johnnie L. Green, Sr. Their family blossomed and was blessed with seven children. Her beloved husband passed away in August 1978. The sunset on Odell the evening of December 15, 2022. She is at home with God and her ancestry who went before her. Odell was the golden matriarch of our family and to many in her community. When asked, she was trusted to give wise counsel to family and friends. She was always the go to person. Odell loved her church and was a loyal cook at Antioch for special events. Her hot water cornbread was the talk of the town. Odell put so much love into the food she prepared for the church and for family and friends. Everyone was welcome to stop by her home after Sunday service for dinner. She loved to feed her friends and family. Her food healed your very soul. Throughout Odell’s ninety-seven years, she was witness to so many lifetime events: eighteen U.S. presidents including the first black president, the Jim Crow era and the Civil Rights ERA, and the age of computers and cell phones …a blessed life indeed. Odell was the last living of her siblings who preceded her in death: her only sister, Marie; brothers Enis, Milton, James, J.C., and Joe B., Sr. Odell is survived by: six of her seven children, with Winona preceding her in death. She leaves: Riley (Inell), John L. (Cheryl, deceased), Barbara, Raynard, Linda, and Kathie (Trevor); her grandchildren, Simone, Piper, Ryan, Jasmin, Johnnie Jr., Cheri, Brittany, Stephany, Larry Jr., Kevin Sr., Brian, Renal, Miracle, Natiya, and Shimaya; and Michelle and Montez who preceded her in death; great-grandchildren, Evan, Victoria, Piper, Dayanna, Cameron, Kevin Jr., Correy, Ras, Johnnie III, Breah, Jessica, Ava, Jamarrion, Jacassion, Caleb, Marielle, and Maliyah; and her special friends, Elsie Speech, Valerie Watts, Coral Mae Davenport, Emma Mister, Lorenza B. Porter, and special cousin, Gladys Hill
