Mr. Ocie L. Conley was born on June 4, 1933, in Crocket County, Tennessee, to Roosevelt and Willie Bell Conley who preceded him in death. He professed hope in Christ at an early age at Porter’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He departed this world on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 6:30 PM at West Suburban Hospital. He was a graduate of Crocket County High School in Alamo, Tennessee, in 1951. After graduating from high school, he attended Tuskegee University. He enlisted in the US Army Reserve from August 18, 1953, to June 9, 1958. Sgt. Ocie L. Conley was officially Honorably Discharged from the US Army on August 31, 1961. Ocie L. Conley married Lucy N. Beard on December 29, 1958, in Union City, Tennessee. They relocated immediately to Chicago, Illinois, to start their family. Ocie and Lucy have been married sixty-four years. He earned a Certificate of Training in General Medical and Surgical Nursing in 1959, and Advanced General Medical and Surgical Nursing in 1969 at Hines VA Hospital, Maywood, Illinois. He began working as a nursing assistant at Hines VA Hospital on July 2, 1959. While continuing his employment at Hines VA Hospital, he also worked part time at Sears Roebuck & Co in the Catalog Merchandise Distribution Center, until the department faded out. He retired from Hines VA Hospital on May 29, 1998. He won numerous service awards while working at Hines VA Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Lucy Conley of Chicago, IL; three daughters, Barbara Ann Smith (Dennis Smith) of Westchester, IL, Nanette Conley of Chicago, IL, and Lakisha Conley of Douglasville, GA; grandson, Denzel Smith of Westchester, IL; sister-in-law, Lovie Conley of Humboldt, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, godchildren, great-godchildren; and friends. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Willie Earl Conley and Tom Conley, and sister, Eva Mae Bogus.
