Ottis Linell Washington Jr., 51, a.k.a. “Smokey,” the firstborn son of Otis and Brenda Washington, was born on August 20, 1970, in Chicago. He was a ball of fire growing up and his great-grandmother, Clementine Mallett, made sure he was baptized and attended New Morning Star M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. D.B. Bishop. Otis was educated in the Chicago Public School system. He graduated from Gladstone Elementary and attended Provendence St. Mel’s High School. Smokey was lovable, fun, and a protector of his family and friends. Smokey loved to see children having fun, taking them to the park, giving them cash for ice cream and such. He also enjoyed social gatherings, talking and shooting the breeze with his buddies. He was self-educated; anything he wanted to do, he taught himself. He enjoyed roller skating, stepping, and all kinds of sports. Smokey was athetic, majestic, charming, cool, strong, and a smooth operator. Smokey had beautiful women in his life who blessed him with four children. He leaves to cherish his life’s legacy to his four beautiful children, Shanice (mother, Renee Kennedy), Suavell and Darvell (mother, Cassandra Northern), and Nephertiti (mother, Kimberly Williams). He was also a father figure in the life of Victoria Bell’s children when he spent time with her. He spent his last months in Wisconsin with his daughter, Nephertiti, and grandchildren, Martavia (lil Mark) and Marshaun, whom he loved dearly. Smokey was preceded in death by his father, Otis Washington; brother, Tyrone (Yogi) Washington; and his sister, Qiana Washington. Smokey is survived by his parents, Brenda and Eugene Williams; his beloved brother, Marques “lil Smoke” (Brittany); and baby sister, Rholanda “Londa”(Demario). Smokey has four aunts on his mother’s side, Debbie Nalls, Sharon (Arthur) Henderson, Angela (deceased), and Jacqueline (Issac) Lewis; two uncles, James (Cynthia) Mallett and Dwyane Mallett (deceased).
