Private Edward DaQuan Smith

Edward DaQuan Smith, affectionally known as “Quan” by his family, was born on November 15, 2001, at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, to Nicole and Edward Smith. Quan academic career commenced at Educare Chicago when he was three, and he acquired reading skills by the age of five. He then went to CICS Charter School, where he earned his diploma in general education. Throughout his childhood, Quan was known for his athleticism and competitive nature. Quan enjoyed playing football, and at the age of eleven, he joined Taylor Park Falcons football team. While playing for Taylor Park, Quan played multiple positions including running back, quarterback, and later became team captain. Quan confessed his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Centennial Missionary Baptist Church on January 4, 2015. Quan attended and graduated from Simeon Career Academy. In 2020, Quan completed his studies, majoring in Automotive Technology, and he met his future wife, Deseanna Anderson/Smith. Quan and Deseanna established their union on February 23, 2022. From their union, they had two beautiful children, Edward Jr. and Elijah Smith. Quan advanced his career and education as an auto mechanic at Lincoln Tech Trade School, where he earned his associates degree in automotive technology on April 26, 2022. During his studies, Quan also worked as Supervisor for Allied Security Services for the University of Chicago. Quan accomplished every goal he set for himself. His alternative objective was to secure a good life for his sons, Edward Jr. and Elijah. While setting and meeting goals, Quan never ceased working on his hobby. Writing poetry was Quan’s initial hobby, later evolving into rapping which became his primary means of self-expression through music. Quan enlisted in the United States Army on May 20, 2022. While in the military, Quan obtained the Army Service Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal. Quan’s weapon badge was Sharpshooter. Quan possessed a radiant smile that illuminated any room. His outstanding character as a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend was further enhanced by his pure heart. Quan was called home on March 1, 2025.
