Raymond Williams Obituary

Raymond Williams was born on December 31, 1954, to the late S.T. and Armetta Williams in East Chicago, IN. He was the fifth child of thirteen children. Raymond Williams accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church until God called him home on July 6, 2022. Raymond was a member of the St. Mark’s Men’s Choir and participated in many other church activities. He attended Hyde Park High School in Chicago, IL, until 1973. In 1973, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he gladly served and was honorably discharged in 1976. He was extremely proud of his veteran status. Anyone who came in contact with him left knowing he was indeed a veteran. After his tour in the U.S. Army, he worked various jobs and was very handy in many areas. Raymond enjoyed being in the presence of his family and friends. He was very intelligent and abreast on many world issues and ready to debate should you choose. Raymond lovingly nicknamed himself “Dollar Bill” and loved to socialize until his physical health declined, but he did not allow that to deter to him. He was preceded in death his father, S.T. Williams; mother, Armetta Williams; brothers, Michael and Cornelius; sister, Alizine Cook; niece, Geanette Cook; nephew, Malcom Hilliard; and one other brother. He leaves to mourn: sisters, Melva Strickland and Tawana Williams, both of AL, Armatine Cook, Shirley Webster (Teatroy), Gertie Williams, and Celeste Williams of IL; brothers, Jerome Williams of IL and Gregory Williams (Patricia) of WI; nieces, Karen, Andrea (Max), Toya, Aarica, Chanetha (Derek), Shantea (Ganell), Brittany, Brianna, Angelique (Charles), Erica, Ashley, and Ta’Mya; nephews, Presiding Elder Reverend Mwana, CWO4 Kajuna (Nancy), Michael, Jesse, Jakevius, Brandon, Tony, Devonte, Justin, and Jeremy; special cousins who were like sisters, Martha and Denise; special friend/nephew, Maurice Crosby; special friend, Shirley Blissit; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, greatgreat-nieces, great-great-nephews, loving family, and friends.
