Renee Buchanan Obituary

a word from Renee “Nay” Buchanan Well, look at me now—y’all finally got me to sit still. But don’t get it twisted, I didn’t go out without leaving some memories, a few laughs, and maybe a few folks still rubbing their knees from trying to do my signature split on the dance floor. I was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised with love, laughter, and just enough sass to keep things interesting. I was a firecracker from the jump—and if you knew me, you already know I didn’t hold my tongue for nobody. If it was on my mind, trust me, it came out my mouth. But everything I did, I did it with love— and probably a little side-eye too. Let me give my flowers while I fly: I leave to cherish my love, my mama, Estella Buchanan, who taught me strength and survival. I now join my sweet husband, the late Fenconery Foy, my daddy Edward Spivery, and my granny, the legendary Annie Lee—I know she already got the kitchen jumping up there. I’ve got a squad of siblings—Sandra, Yolanda, Veronica, and Renea—my ride-or-die sisters. And my brothers: Greogory, Ponnell, Dell, Edward Jr., and Victor. Y’all better keep watching out for Mama and each other now, you hear? Now let’s talk about my pride and joy—my babies: Deondra, Demetrius, Fenconery Jr., Dantana, Lavell, Shavonise (Kennedy), and Fenix. My heartbeat in human form. Y’all drove me crazy sometimes, but I would lay down my life for you over and over again. You all made me proud. I was the neighborhood’s second mama, nurse, counselor, and referee. My door—and my mouth—was always open. I worked for years as a CNA, caring for others like they were my own kin. Taking care of people wasn’t just a job for me—it was my calling. And baby, I did it well. I lit up a room with my laugh, my moves, and my energy. I danced like nobody was watching—even though everybody was. I lived out loud, loved hard, and left a legacy of joy and strength. And yes… I still had it! So don’t cry too long. Just know I’m up here doing the splits on streets of gold and keeping an eye on all y’all. Keep the music playing, the family strong, and my name full of love—not sadness. Until we meet again— Signed, sealed, and dipped in fabulous—
